RICE FARMS
From diverse backgrounds to multi-generational families, Rice Farmers help shape their communities, their environments and the health of millions around the world!

Rice Growing States
Each year, American rice farmers sustainably grow roughly 20 billion pounds of rice in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas.
Half of the rice crop is consumed in the United States, accounting for 80 percent of the rice consumed domestically. The other half of the crop is exported to more than 120 countries around the globe.

The U.S. rice industry provides critical jobs in rural areas throughout the country. As a whole, the rice industry contributes in excess of $34 billion to the U.S. economy annually and provides jobs for more than 125,000 individuals in the United States.

Farmers & Their Families
More than 80 percent of the rice consumed in the United States is grown on family farms across the six major rice-producing states: Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas.

More than 5,500 American rice farmers directly support more than 14,600 jobs, generating $1.56 billion in direct labor income.
On average, each rice farm contributes $1 million to their local economy.

Like many who grew up on a farm, Harvest Trails Farmers know that being a farmer takes a lot of grit, entrepreneurial spirit, and tenacity. “Farmers are hard workers and don’t quit until the job gets done. And, in this business no matter how hard you work, and how well you follow the plan, there are a lot of variables out of your control like unfair trade agreements, politics, environmental issues, natural disasters, and inflation, to name just a few.”
Despite the many challenges, Harvest Trails rice farmers are persistent in their commitment to produce the best, safest crop possible.
Rice Farm Protocols & Sustainability
“Farmers are the first conservationists!”

Buzzwords like “sustainability” and “conservation” may seem trendy to corporate marketers, but for Harvest Trails Rice Farmers, these concepts have real, practical impact.
Farmers grows the highest quality rice while protecting and cultivating the land, taking advantage of cutting-edge technological innovations like laser land-leveling, tailwater recovery systems, reservoirs, wells, and moisture sensors that reduce water use and increase efficiency.
In the winter, many rice Farmers flood their rice fields to provide critical habitat for thousands of migratory waterfowl and other wetland-dependent species, who earn their keep by helping to decompose rice straw. The flooded fields also prevent soil erosion and help control weeds, proving that agriculture and natural resource management go hand-in-hand.
